Confirmation
Confirmation Preparation at St. Francis of Assisi
Who Is Confirmation For?
The Sacrament of Confirmation is for every baptized Christian who desires to be strengthened in the Holy Spirit to live out their faith more fully. It is a sacrament of initiation that, together with Baptism and the Eucharist, forms the foundation of the Christian life.
Confirmation is not merely a coming-of-age ritual or a symbolic gesture. It is a true sacrament instituted by Christ that bestows the seal of the Holy Spirit upon the soul, strengthening the baptized to be witnesses of Christ in the world.
“Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit... Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.” Acts 8:14–17
Why Do We Need Confirmation?
Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:
“By the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1285
Confirmation Is for You If...
- You are baptized and have not yet been confirmed
- You want the strength and guidance of the Holy Spirit
- You wish to be a more active, mature disciple of Jesus
- You seek a deeper relationship with the Church and her mission
In short, Confirmation is for every baptized person not yet confirmed—called to be a courageous disciple, missionary, and witness to Christ in the world.
