Your salvation will quickly come.
These words are part of an Advent hymn, Drop Down Dew/Rorate Caeli. The opening words of the hymn’s refrain are taken from the Old Testament Book of Isaiah and give beautiful expression to the deep longings of the Chosen People, and symbolically the Church, for the coming of the Messiah, the Lord’s anointed One!

Advent Wreath Prayers
Prayer for the First Week of Advent
Reflection: Stay awake! Be ready! As advent begins, the liturgy reminds us that we are also preparing for the coming of Christ at the end of the world. We cannot know the time of Christ’s coming, but it will be like a thief in the night. The Lord is coming and his coming is both frightening and filled with HOPE. On that day, we will each have to give an account of ourselves. On that day the swords will be beat into plowshares and “the Lord our justice shall reign.”
Light one purple candle.
Scripture: “May the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow more and more...In this way, He will strengthen you and you will be perfect and holy...when our Lord Jesus comes”. (1 Thes 3:12-13)
Prayer: Jesus, you are the light of the world. Teach us to leave the darkness behind and to live in your light. Help us not to hurt each other by our words and actions. Make us thoughtful and generous so that we can be ready to greet you when you come.
Response: Come, Lord Jesus!
Prayer for the Second Week of Advent
Reflection: Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight the path! We hear the voice of John the Baptist calling us to prepare our hearts to greet the Lord. “Reform your lives, the reign of God is at hand,” he says. In other words, straighten out your crooked ways and make your rough places smooth. You too are a herald of God’s reign. Make peace, give comfort, be patient. Cry out with your deeds: “Our God is coming! Prepare the way.”
Light two purple candles.
Scripture: “May God, the source of all patience and encouragement, enable you to live in perfect harmony with one another according to the spirit of Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and voice, you may glorify God” (Rom 15: 5-6).
Prayer: Jesus, you are the light of the world. May the fire of your love burn away our sins. May it help us to prepare the way for you by being kind, forgiving, and fair.
Response: Come, Lord Jesus!
Prayer for the Third Week of Advent
Reflection: Rejoice! Here is your God! As the feast of Christmas draws closer, we are reminded that the Lord is with us even now. Jesus came to give sight to the blind and life to the dead. Christ’s reign is among us through our deeds of love and generosity. Let us not grow weary, but steady our hearts and rejoice, for the Lord is close at hand!
Light two purple candles and the rose-colored one.
Scripture: “Rejoice in the Lord always! I say it again. Rejoice! Everyone should see how unselfish you are. The Lord is near” (Phil 4: 4-5).
Prayer: Jesus, you are the light of the world. May your light shine brightly so we can see you everywhere. Help us to spread your light and joy by giving freely and happily to all we meet.
Response: Come, Lord Jesus!
Prayer for the Fourth Week of Advent
Reflection: The angel announces to Mary, “You shall bear a son whose name will be Emmanuel,” which means, God with us. We Mary, we are called to be Christ bearers. With her we wonder, “How can this be?” As Christmas draws near, let us open our hearts in trust to the power of the Holy Spirit who comes upon us. Let us join Mary in saying, “Be it done unto me according to your word.”
Light all four candles.
Scripture: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus… Blessed is she who trusted that the Lord’s word to her would be fulfilled”(Lk 1: 42, 45).
Prayer: Jesus, you are the light of the world. Yet you were born in the darkness of night, in a cold stable with only the animals to warm you. Let the light of your love shine on us so we can see you today in all the helpless children, in all who have no home. Teach us how to love you in them.

Oración para el primera semana de adviento
Reflexión: ¡Manténganse despiertos! ¡Prepárense! Cuando empieza el Adviento, la liturgia nos recuerda que nos preparemos para la venida de Cristo al fin del mundo. No sabemos cuando Cristo vendrá, pero llegará como un ladrón en la noche. El Señor viene y su venida es aterradora, pero también esperanzadora. Ese día, tendremos que darnos cuenta por nosotros mismos. Ese día, las espadas se convertirán en cuchillas de arado y “el Señor, nuestra justicia, reinará.”
Enciende una vela morada.
Escrituras: “Que el Señor los haga crecer cada vez más en el amor mutuo y hacia todos los demás, semejante al que nosotros tenemos por ustedes. Que él fortalezca sus corazones en la santidad y los haga irreprochables delante de Dios, nuestro Padre, el día de la Venida del Señor Jesús con todos sus santos.” (1 Thes 3:12-13)
Oración: Jesús, tú eres la luz del mundo. Enséñanos a dejar atrás la oscuridad y a vivir en tu luz. Ayúdanos a no lastimar a unos y a otros con nuestras palabras y acciones. Haznos reflexivos y generosos para que podamos estar listos para recibirlo cuando venga.

Oración para la segunda semana de adviento
Reflexión: Prepara el camino del Señor, endereza el camino. Escuchemos la voz de Juan el Bautista llamándonos a preparar nuestro corazón para saludar al Señor. “Reformen sus vidas, el reino de Dios está cerca”, él dice. En otras palabras, endereza tus caminos torcidos y suaviza tus asperezas. Tú también eres un heraldo del reino de Dios. Haz las paces, da consuelo, ten paciencia. Clama con tus obras: “¡Viene nuestro Dios! Prepara el camino ".
Enciende dos velas moradas.
Escrituras: “Que el Dios de la constancia y del consuelo les conceda tener los mismos sentimientos unos hacia otros, a ejemplo de Cristo Jesús, para que con un solo corazón y una sola voz, glorifiquen a Dios, el Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.” (Rom 15: 5-6).
Oración: Jesús, tú eres la luz del mundo. Que el fuego de tu amor queme nuestros pecados. Que nos ayude a preparar el camino siendo amables, tolerantes y justos.

Oración para la tercera semana de adviento
Reflexión: ¡Alégrense! ¡Aquí está tu Dios! A medida que se acerca la fiesta de Navidad, se nos recuerda que el Señor está con nosotros incluso ahora. Jesús vino a dar vista a los ciegos y vida a los muertos. El reino de Cristo está entre nosotros a través de nuestras obras de amor y generosidad. No nos cansemos, sino que afirmemos nuestro corazón y regocijémonos, porque el Señor está cerca.
Enciende dos velas moradas y la rosa.
Escrituras: “Alégrense siempre en el Señor. Vuelvo a insistir, alégrense. Que la bondad de ustedes sea conocida por todos los hombres. El Señor está cerca.” (Phil 4: 4-5).
Oración: Jesús, tú eres la luz del mundo. Que tu luz brille intensamente para que podamos verte en todas partes. Ayúdanos a esparcir tu luz y tu alegría dando libertad y felicidad a todos los que nos reunimos.

Oración para la cuarta semana de adviento
Reflexión: El ángel le anuncia a María: "Darás a luz un hijo y su nombre será Emmanuel", que significa Dios con nosotros. Nosotros, María, estamos llamados a ser portadores de Cristo. Con ella nos preguntamos, "¿Cómo puede ser esto?" A medida que se acerca la Navidad, abramos nuestro corazón en confianza al poder del Espíritu Santo que viene sobre nosotros. Unámonos con María para decir: “Hágase en mí según tu palabra."
Enciende las cuatro velas.
Escrituras: “¡Tú eres bendita entre todas las mujeres y bendito es el fruto de tu vientre!...Feliz de ti por haber creído que se cumplirá lo que te fue anunciado de parte del Señor.” (Lk 1: 42, 45).
Oración: Jesús, tú eres la luz del mundo. Sin embargo, naciste en la oscuridad de la noche, en un establo frío con solo los animales para calentarte. Deja que la luz de tu amor brille sobre nosotros para que podamos verte hoy en todos los niños indefensos, en todos los que no tienen hogar. Enséñanos a amarte en ellos.
