Tuesday, December 4
Advent weekday; Hanukkah begins at sunset

Share the light

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, begins this evening and runs for eight days. It celebrates the rekindling of the Temple menorah at the time of a Jewish uprising against foreign domination that began in 167 B.C. The festival is observed in Jewish homes by the kindling of lights on each night of the holiday—one on the first night, two on the second, and so on. While followers of Jesus worldwide prepare for the Christmas holidays, it is good for us to acknowledge the religious holidays of other faiths. Surprise a Jewish friend or coworker by wishing them a Happy Hanukkah today.

Today’s Readings: Isaiah 11:1-10; Luke 10:21-24

"You have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants."
